Walking around Bilbao: the best routes on foot

If you want to go for a walk around Bilbao, you cannot miss these routes on foot. Short 40-minute routes that will allow you to get to know the best of Bilbao.

Going for a walk around the city is one of the best plans you can make in the Bizkaian capital. In addition to being able to do so on foot, Bilbao has an increasing number of kilometres of cycle paths, such as Uribitarte y Abandoibarra.

In this article we have compiled 4 routes that you cannot miss if you want to get to know Bilbao by walking and enjoying its streets and people.

Walking around Bilbao: 4 routes that you cannot miss.

From San Mamés Stadium to Plaza Circular.

The first route that we suggest starts off from the esplanade of the famous, award-winning football stadium, going down Calle Sabino Arana to Plaza del Sagrado Corazón de Jesús.

When you reach this square, you can take a completely straight route to the other end of the town along the Gran Vía. You will be able to enjoy shops and a quiet stroll along the wide pavements.

From the Arriaga Theatre to the Euskalduna Conference Centre

Another fantastic route starts at the Arriaga Theatre and runs along the estuary to the Euskalduna Conference Centre.

You can do it at on either side of the estuary, but we recommend that you cross onto the right bank at the Guggenheim Museum so that you get a panoramic view of the famous building.

From Doña Casilda Park to the La Casilla building.

You can walk from the lungs of the city up to La Casilla, the Municipal Institute of Sports, along Calle Areilza.

You will also cross one of its most famous streets on match day, Calle Poza, full of bars where you can stop off for a pintxo.

From the Old Town to the Basilica of Begoña.

And lastly, we offer you one of the best routes on foot through Bilbao, from the Old Town to the Basilica of Begoña.

The route may be somewhat harder because you have to climb, but the views from this point in the city are worth it.

If you do any of these 4 routes that we propose, you will see everything that you should not miss if you come to visit Bilbao.
